Art is never complete. a journey. a joyful experience!

My Growing Portfolio

Somethings are worth fighting for. That includes the struggle for the perfect piece of art. Whether that comes from a painting or from cloth, this truth holds true 100% of the time . . . I think.

Prince Zuko was my first break out cosplay as an independent cosplayer. Previous to him, I was under the apprenticeship of another seamstress and Zuko was the first cosplay I made without the help of a master teacher. I suppose in a way, I was trying to gain or garner my own honor as a seamstress in the same way that Zuko fights for his in the story of Avatar the Last Airbender.

James Allen, or “Jimmy” as they guys call me, is a persona that I took up during my time in Civil War Re-enactment. As a “smooth faced” soldier boy, I represented the women who fought and died in the Civil War dressed as men. I successfully attended many re-enactments under the guise of this young soldier and much of handwork education can be traced back to these years. Though his kepi has long since gathered dust, the bonds and memories that were forged on the battle field continue to influence my various art forms.

DreamWork’s “Rise of the Guardians” delighted me upon it’s release and I couldn’t resist making his hoodie. Simple, yet whimsical! I enjoyed the extensive detail that took place on him. As a result, it has lived a long life as a functional hoodie. Though he never saw the stage or a convention, his hoodie remains a winter favorite each year.

Will you dance with me, Death? Undertaker took the World Cosplay Stage in 2017. I base the design on Yana Toboso’s Manga “Kuroshitsuiji”. This presentation gives a quirky and irreverent interpretation that is full of surprises. Just be sure to not get on his bad side.

East meets West in this playful mashup of Naoko Takeuchi’s Sailor Moon and Marvel’s Captain America. A tip of the hat to WCS Team USA’s 2013 performance, Sailor America is full of surprises and more than meets the eye.
